About Us
Golden Mind Academy was founded on lived experience.
Our founder, Dut Phillip Jool Joh, grew up as a refugee in Ayilo Refugee Settlement after fleeing conflict in South Sudan at a young age. Like many children in the settlement, he studied under trees, walked long distances barefoot, and learned in overcrowded classrooms with very limited resources. Despite these challenges, education became a path of hope and opportunity, eventually leading him to Yale University.
Today, Golden Mind Academy is being built so that children growing up in refugee communities can have access to a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment where they can learn, grow, and dream again.
Our Project
Golden Mind Academy is currently constructing classrooms in Ayilo Refugee Settlement, Uganda. The school will begin with Nursery and Primary sections and aims to serve hundreds of children from refugee and host communities.
Construction has already started, but more support is still needed to complete classrooms, roofing, flooring, and other important work.
This project is not just about buildings. It is about creating a place where children can learn with dignity, discover their potential, and build a better future.
